RIAI Silver Medal for Housing

RIAI Silver medal2
Lawrence and Long Architects received Highly Commended (second place) for the RIAI Silver Medal 2013-2014
for their project 'Wainscotted - Four Apartments in a Protected Structure', during a presentation in Dublin Castle on 21st of May 2019.
The Jury citation read -

"A very carefully controlled and rigorously applied design parti of interventions as elaborated linings of varying depths, containing and seamlessly integrating bathrooms, kitchens and storage spaces and thereby facilitating the reinstatement of the integrity of the original plan form.
In particular the design intelligence and judgement evident in the discrete integration of the fire safety strategy, the handling
of communal areas and the Architects’ perseverance through the statutory approvals processes, while preserving intact
the conceptual clarity, were noted.
It is specifically noted that while this project is beautifully detailed and crafted with a rich materiality and a commensurate
budget, its conceptual clarity is not dependent on that materiality and it remains strategically relevant to numerous derelict,
vacant and under-utilised properties independent of budget. As such it can and should serve as an exemplar for practitioners, local authorities and building owners alike."
